Fall 2010 Courses
This is a list of the classes in the Lane Community College Programming Track that I either have completed or am currently taking. The course description is from the syallbus.
- ART 288: Introduction to Web Design
- A brief introduction to designing web sites that keep viewers' interest.
- CIS 100: Computer Careers Exploration
- This course will introduce you to fundamental concepts and terminology used in working with computers and to the myriad of career pathways possible in the Information Technology industry. Career pathways will be explored primarily through guest speakers who work in IT for a variety of organizations.
- CIS 102: Problem Solving with Computers
- An introduction to methods and tools for solving problems in an information systems environment. The emphasis of the course will be on problem solving in an algorithmic context, that is, given a problem statement how does one create a series of steps to solve the problem with a computer by either designing an algorithm which may later be implemented with a programming language, or by utilizing existing applications such as spreadsheet or drawing software. Students will be introduced to a programming language as well as become experienced in using Excel and Visio as problem-solving tools. The course is designed as an introductory course in the CIT Department's degree programs.
- CIS 140: Operating Environments: Managing Windows 7
- An introduction to the Windows 7 operating system. Topics discussed include file management, printing, securing and customizing the system, maintenance tasks, sharing files, and managing hardware and software. This is a hands-on, lab-based class. There will be lab assignments on each textbook chapter covered as well as a course orientation lab.
- CS 195: Web Authoring 1
- This course introduces you to the concepts of XHTML syntax and coding, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) code and layout techniques, and basic web media and interactivity using dynamic methods (DHTML). This is a hands-on class in which you will use lab time to work through textbook examples and then complete end-of-chapter case studies for homework. You will use a file transfer protocol (FTP) client program to edit and update online web pages.
